O.L.Vrouwkerk (Market – place)
This church is first mentioned after it burned in 1500. The church is rebuilt but after a heavy storm during the 16th century the church gets its final shape in 1864/65. The church has original glass frames from the year 1874 and a pulpit from the abbey of Vlierbeek in Leuven, transported to this location after being abolished during the French Revolution.
Rielenkapel (Rielen)
The chapel is first mentioned in 1564, but for sure there must have been a place of prayer earlier on this spot…In 1600 the chapel is rebuilt and restored in 1999. Each wednesday morning you can take part in a prayer ceremony. The nine stripes on the bricks are the witness of the prayers from mothers who pray for their unborn or growing-up children.
Wannes van Lichtert (Markt - Market-place)
In 2000 a bronze monument has been inaugurated on the market-place of Lichtaart, which not only symbolizes the origin of the village, but also pretends to be the icon of the life style during the last century. On a sandstone base with the names of the hamlets around Lichtaart shepherd Wannes is watching the glow, coming up from the earth, according to one of the multiple legends concerning the origin of the village. The artist of this statue is Tom Frantzen.
Kapel O.L.Vrouw in ’t Zand (Poederleesteenweg)
This chapel along the road to Poederlee is situated on a triangular square. In the centre on the altar stands a South-Italian statue of the Holy Mother of Loreto(1674).
Pastorij (Lichtaart)
Built in 1675 in Barok style, the authenticity of the residence remains well protected, even if it is sold on the black market during the French Revolution…
Hofke van Bayot (Witte Bergen)
In 1914 Nestor Bayot is killed in action during a reconnaissance. In gratitude a small commemoration spot is inaugurated and Nestor Bayot is buried in his native village Lens-St Servais in Luik.
